Earth has been devastated by war and climate change over the last century. It is unknown if Earth’s biosphere or climate will ever recover, but the situation seems to be improving, or at least not getting any worse.
Earth currently depends on a wide variety of geoengineering projects to mitigate the effects of climate change, but they are all hoped to be temporary solutions. The extensive research and experience setting up and maintaining biospheres inside space colonies have helped Earth’s attempts to fix its own.
Earth currently has an estimated 7 billion people living on it.
